Are your identity secured and credit monitored?

 Do you have an email account, have you ever had credit card, do you use a smart phone, do you have any bill…? And yes, most people do. These are the few common things that everyone does on a daily basis or will soon be doing in one way or another as long as we increase the need for technology use. The good thing is that society seems to be happier with them than without them. Unfortunately, the bad news is that the increased use of these items has made societies more vulnerable identity theft.

Have you ever received a credit card application, flyers or free magazine subscriptions with your correct name and address on it and wondered how and where these companies got hold of your information? Well, all of your information is out there – it is just matter of knowing who is using it and how that information is being used.
So, the question is what should you do if your identity is stolen?

Hopefully, you have had the knowledge of the transaction within days to actively active act on it. This usually happens when you monitor your bank online, have a third party that monitor your credit report… However, if you have been a subject of identity theft and do not practice the above prerequisites, you will have to be prompted to act on it. Regardless, some of the few steps that can be taken as recommended by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Identity Theft website are as simple as filing a police report, checking your credit report, notifying your creditors, contacting the FTC, and disputing any unauthorized transactions that may have been posted to your financial institutions. However, if you monitor your identity actively with a third party institution where employees are paid to do just that, the likelihood of you being informed within hours or days of any changes that occur in your credit report or an event of identity theft is very high compared to having knowledge of the occurrence months after the theft has occurred.

A new Federal law has given you the right to receive a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide credit reporting companies. To do so, you must go to www.annualcreditreport.com. That’s once a year and you’re not a once a potential victim. You may elect to wait that one time a year to monitor your credit or you can do it regularly yourself or have a third party institution to monitor it for you. After all, it’s your identity and credit.

Doing it yourself:

1 - PROS
* Free
* Pay only when needed
* Best if nothing to worry about

2 - CONS
* No monthly credit or fraud alerts – only once a year if you remember to request it
* No identity theft insurance
* Pay extra to get extra (To receive additional credit reports…)
* Best if you worry about your identity and credit report

Hiring an institution:

1 - PROS
* Receive credit and fraud alerts when there is a change in your record
* Most institutions offer free credit score
* Options to request security freeze
* Package often includes identity theft insurance
* May receive third party online security software or applications

2 - CONS
* Pay monthly fee

The Best Gift

Is there such think as best gift? I’m sure if there was one best gift out there, people wouldn’t bother changing the gift every time there is a need to give one. Rather, it would be keen to say that occasion makes the best gift. How would you like getting a gift of a 42” flat screen TV before the college basketball season when you already have two in your house as compared to getting a vacation package when you have been saving eventually some money to go relax in Hawaii or New Zealand for a week or two after months of busy work schedule? To make matter worse, how about receiving a size 8 shoe when your actually wear size 10? This was exactly the case with one pastor who received a gift of shoe he could not use because he wears bigger size than the one that was given to him. To address the issue, the pastor jokingly advised the congregation that if anyone was going to give him a gift of shoes, to kindly request for his size to avoid disappointing anyone. In this case, the best scenario we could have hoped for is for the pastor to be given the receipt or to return the gift to be exchange with the correct size; otherwise, the gift loses its value. Is Mother’s Day for all Women?

Mother’s Day is a celebration of motherhood around the world, though the dates of celebration vary from country to country, the significance has remained the same. Yet, while the meaning of motherhood concept may carry different implications, one of its common denominators to those who can conceive may be the acceptance to carry the fetus in their womb without regards to any changes their body may be subjected to. Hence, this observation makes wonder whether it is appropriate to celebrate the day for woman who think of pregnancy as ruin factor to their body as in the case of the Biggest Loser’s trainer Jillian Michaels who told the Women’s Health magazine that “I can’t handle doing that to my body”

So, the question is: Is Mother’s Day for all Women?

How to “Double Dip a Membership”

Do you like to travel or get on the road? Do you use a certain product or service frequently? You may consider getting a membership from companies that reward those products or services you have always used or wanted if you have never thought about it. Here are two examples that illustrate why you should do it and how to do it:

1. If you or your love one own or use a vehicle that always need mechanical assistance, if not may use some on the freeway or while away from home… it is may be the time for you to start thinking about getting a roadside assistance membership. There are many companies out there that can help your with your car and save you some money. If you cannot find one, check out the American Automobile Association or AAA for instance. Instead of calling the towing company, call them and to obtain the membership. While you will 0nly get a limited service on that day, you will save money while you are getting a yearly membership - your first full service will start nearly a week after getting the membership. Since in most cases, if you call a towing company, you’ll get charged at least $50 hookup fees and $2.5 per mile and you do the math for your destination. So, if you have at least AAA Plus membership (For $97), you are guaranteed four (4) free tows up to 100 miles each from their towing partners. Yet, with their yearly membership, you will continue to enjoy all the savings (Promotion, discounts…) that come with the card at certain hotels, when shopping for car insurance, restaurants, and many of their major partners.

2. Sky mileage - Sign up for it and it is free. Most major airline companies offer free membership in terms of sky mileage to attract and make their customers to become frequent flyers and so to reward them with free airline ticket, hotel room, car rental… after they have accumulated a required number of miles or points… So, if you are taking a flight and you don’t have a membership with the airline you have booked the ticket with, you should always think about getting the membership with that company to have the mileage you will be travelling to be credited to your account. You can also do this for your kind (s) if you have any and you will find the membership very useful specifically if you are the one who pays for the ticket. If you have already purchased the ticket without adding your membership number, all you have to do is to go online and see if the airline offers a membership. If so, sign up for it, get the number and make sure you present it at the when checking in online or at the ticket counter at the airport. When the time comes where you have accumulated the required mileage to obtain the free airline ticket, hotel room, or car rental day…, and if applicable, all you may have to pay for will be the taxes and you will be on your way to more savings…

How to Use Your IRS Income Tax Return

The Three (3) quickest things you should to do with your IRS income tax return before it’s too late.

1. Pay off your debt if you can and have any – If you have a credit card debt or any other, you should think about getting rid of the debt (If you have enough return) if not at least reducing it. This is a perfect time to do it. You should apply at least 60% towards that debt. And, if you have a positive residual amount (Meaning the 60% paid off the debt and you still have some money left from that percentage) after applying the 60%, add the remaining to #2. Meanwhile, if you didn’t have any debt in th first place, you should apply the entire 60% towards #2.

2. Open a savings account if you do not have one – When you do or if you did, next make a deposit into that savings account. You should put at least 20% to help you start building an emergency funds. If you did not have to apply 60% towards any debt in the first place, at this point you should now have 80% in your savings, of which you could later on use 50% of it as emergency fund and the remaining 50% towards a short or longtime investment such as CD... and hopefully to help you towards a good financial life.

3. Apply the remaining 20% into your checking account to help you with your daily expenses. This is also where you should get the money to buy what you’ve always wanted to buy. If the percentage cannot suffice to get you what you always wanted, wait you shouldn’t afford it at the moment.

Therapeutic with Vitamins?

A large number of people do not take advantage of the benefits of Mother Nature’s harvest to help their body to heal and to protect it against diseases often times caused by microorganisms that constitute our everyday’s cheerless companions in this planet. Whereas the reasons for not taking advantage of these benefits may be a matter of choice or a lack the opportunity to certain individuals, for the most part it would be fair to confer this unfortunate reality to a lack of awareness.
Not many people know that with little help with vitamin intake whether as a supplement or natural through foodstuff, human body can fight certain diseases. Vitamin is an organic composite that a living being needs as a nutrient in a tiny amounts to perform metabolism. Generally, people use vitamins either in excess or too little to satisfy their needs.

An excerpt from an article published by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services on the “Effect of the Supplemental Use of Antioxidants Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Coenzyme Q10 for the Prevention and Treatment of Cancer states, “… the adequacy of the vitamin supply to cells and tissues influences the development, progress, and outcome of cancers. A major challenge to the integrity and function of cells and tissues is thought to come from the uncontrolled formation of free radicals. Free radicals may, alone or in combination, attack cell membranes and DNA. The body has evolved antioxidant defenses to protect against free radical-induced damage. It is postulated that the antioxidant vitamins E and C and coenzyme Q10 are potentially involved in these antioxidant defenses and that some diseases might be prevented by increasing intake of antioxidants, either through increasing the dietary intake of antioxidant-rich foods or taking antioxidant supplements. However, it should be noted that while free radicals have been implicated in over 100 human diseases, this implication does not constitute proof of their role in disease formation or that preventing the formation or function of free radicals can prevent or cure disease.” (Full article)

Today, extensive researches illustrate the uncontestable benefits of vitamins and a countless number of books that pinpoint where to find these vitamins are available in the market. For instance, Healing with Vitamins: The Most Effective Vitamin and Mineral Treatments for Everyday Health Problems and Serious Disease by the Editors of Prevention Health Books is an excellent day-to-day book that every household should have for quick reference. In Part-1, the book provides a description of vitamins and minerals (To include their daily value and sources) for their health benefits and in Part-2, their therapeutic prescriptions for healing. Some of the common conditions and diseases known to harm human being, which the book explains include but are not limited to cancer, heart diseases, overweight, diabetes…
Certainly, no one should fight any disease or condition just with vitamins alone specifically at a critical stage. However, it is clear that when used as preventive measure by eating appropriate food that rich in elements that the body needs, these nutrients should help the human body from predators, which may be undisruptive at first. Yet, when used in conjunction with contemporary medicine, these vitamins and minerals should also increase human body’s chances of healing.

The Gadget World: Nexus One vs. Other Smart Phones

Gadget World tabloids and cellphone lovers are once again back to the gadget round table assessing Google's introduction of its smart phone - Nexus One. Yet, just a few months back in 2009, Apple had caused similar effects. Now, no one off course should be surprised of any analogous revelation or creation in the near future.

What is the catch for those not familiar with these smart phones? A comparison made by BillShrink on the new generation of smart phones reveal much what these phones have in common, and less on what they have in exception. Basically, all of these smart phones have to a certain extent some degree of storage capacity, battery life time, possess camera, Wi-Fi capability, GPS, command voice functions, digital encoding format, a number of application, and the list goes on. The only biggest difference off course comes to how much can users afford and Nexus One seems to be triumphant here.

Most importantly, what is striking on these smart phones is the number of applications they tend to have - some phones have as bigger as 93,200 as in the case of iPhone. Now, what can people with all these application? In this busy society, many people have already barely enough time to do anything, so bringing the reasons to wonder whether people who buy them need phones with these phones with a great deal of features. Off course, when used to their fullest, these smart phones can be very useful, but unfortunately often times, those who own them only exploit a slim portion of their rich features.

So, do you want a smart or a dull-witted phone? I say, it's your money, your lifestyle, you make the call!
