By contacting IRS, you will be getting your answers straight from the source. And, if you chose to use the website, there is ton of utilities available right at your fingertips from downloading forms, checking available tax credits, calculating your withholding, e-fling… to checking your refund status.

1. Your refund

- Where to check your federal refund from IRS? Check IRS Refund Status page.
- Things you will need: Your social security number, filing status, and refund amount

2. Due dates and applicable extensions for your federal tax season

- April 15 – Due date for filing your federal income tax.
- June 15 – Due date for filing if you are a member of Armed Forces stationed overseas or anyone living outside of the United States and Porto Rico for business reason. However to qualify for this automatic extension, you must attach a statement explaining your situation.
- October 15 - Those serving in combat zone have at least 180 days to file after leaving the designated combat zone.

3. Where to send your payment

If you owe IRS, it is recommended that you make your payment in full to avoid any interests and other penalties. You can do this through “Lockbox” by using the form 1040-V. You can request a settlement to pay over time. If you owe more than $25K, you can apply to use online Payment Agreement or OPA. And, when sending a check… the address where to send the correspondence is often listed on the form itself; however, if the address cannot be found, to be safe, you should always call the IRS for the appropriate address.
